Privacy policy

kin turns a portrait into an imagined ancestor, a later version of you, or an imagined descendant. This page explains what happens to your data, in plain words.
Who is responsible
kin is made and operated by Domenico Amalfitano, Rome, Italy (“we”). For anything about privacy, write to support@kinaiapp.xyz.
What we collect
- Your account. When you sign in with Apple we receive a stable identifier, which we store only as a one-way hash, and your name if you choose to share it. We do not receive your email address.
- Your portraits. The portrait you choose is sent to create your result. Your original stays on your iPhone, in kin’s private storage.
- Your record. For each journey we keep the type of journey, the years, the date and the generated image, so your record follows you to any iPhone where you sign in.
- Your subscription. kin sends us the transaction signed by the App Store (product, dates and transaction identifiers) to apply the free trial and fair-use limits. Apple handles all payments: we never see card or payment details.
- Notifications. If you allow notifications, we store your iPhone’s push token to tell you when a portrait has arrived. Turn them off in kin’s settings and the token is deleted.
- Settings. Sounds, haptics and similar preferences stay on your iPhone.
- Technical logs. Our servers log errors and request metadata for security and reliability. Logs never contain your images or sign-in tokens.
kin has no advertising, no analytics or tracking SDKs, and we never sell or share your data for marketing.
How portraits are processed
Your portrait is uploaded to FLORA (flora.ai), the image-generation service that creates the result with the AI models it runs. FLORA keeps the uploaded portrait and the generated image in our private workspace; they are not published. FLORA does not currently let us delete these files automatically; if you ask us to, we remove what we can manually.
We do not use your portraits to train AI models, and we do not perform facial recognition or identify anyone.
Where your data is stored
Accounts, journey records and generated images are stored in private storage on Vercel in Frankfurt, Germany. Images are only delivered to the signed-in owner. Some providers (FLORA, Apple) may process data outside the European Union; in that case we rely on the safeguards they offer, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
Why we use it
- To provide kin and your subscription (performance of our contract with you).
- To keep kin secure and prevent abuse, for example daily limits (our legitimate interest).
- To send arrival notifications (your consent, which you can withdraw at any time).
How long we keep it
Your account, record and images are kept until you delete a journey or your account. Push tokens are kept while notifications are on. Error logs are kept for a short time, normally no more than 30 days.
Deleting your data
In kin, open Account and choose Delete account and record. This permanently removes your account, every journey and every stored image from our storage. You can also delete single journeys from your record. Subscriptions are managed by Apple: cancel them in Settings on your iPhone.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask to access, correct, export or delete your data, and to object to or restrict its use. Write to support@kinaiapp.xyz. You can also complain to the Italian data protection authority, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali (garanteprivacy.it), or to the authority where you live.
Children
kin is not intended for anyone under 16. Please do not upload portraits of children unless you are their parent or guardian.
Changes
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we will update this page and tell you in the app.
